XBRL Filing with ACRA: What's Required, and What Changed in 2026

Singapore has required structured, machine-readable financial statement filings since 2007. Most companies still need to file in XBRL format today — but which template applies, and which companies are exempt, depends on specific criteria that are worth getting right before your filing is due.

Who must file, and who's exempt

The default rule: every Singapore-incorporated company, limited or unlimited by shares, that files financial statements with ACRA must file them in XBRL format. Two categories are fully exempt: dormant relevant companies under section 201A of the Companies Act, and solvent Exempt Private Companies (EPCs) — a private company with no more than 20 members, none of whom is a corporation, that instead files a Statement of Solvency. Sole proprietorships, partnerships, and Limited Liability Partnerships fall outside the XBRL requirement entirely.

Which template applies

ACRA offers more than one XBRL filing option. Smaller, non-publicly-accountable companies typically use Simplified XBRL; banks and insurers file FSH-format statements; most other companies file Full XBRL. Some source guidance describes the threshold for the smaller-company template as revenue not exceeding S$500,000 and total assets not exceeding S$500,000 for the current financial year — both conditions holding together. Because this specific figure comes from third-party guidance rather than an ACRA page in our own research, confirm the current threshold directly on ACRA's XBRL filing page before deciding which template applies to your company.

The 2026 BizFinx update

ACRA released version 4.0 of the BizFinx Preparation Tool and Multi-Upload Tool on 25 February 2026, incorporating ACRA Taxonomy 2026 v1.0 to reflect the latest changes to Singapore Financial Reporting Standards. Companies were able to prepare and file using the new version from that date, with a transition deadline of 15 April 2026 by which the earlier tool version was no longer accepted.

Why it matters beyond compliance

ACRA uses the tagged data collected through XBRL filings to support analytics and enforcement targeting across the corporate register, not just to store a static copy of your statements. Getting the mapping and template selection right the first time avoids the validation failures and rework that a wrong template choice typically causes.

This whitepaper summarises publicly available ACRA guidance as at the checked date above. It is not accounting or filing advice. Template thresholds and tool versions change; confirm current requirements on ACRA's XBRL filing pages before preparing a live filing.
